Is it just me or does any one else REALLY miss the old sound of the Black Keys? I mean the sound that was present on albums like the big come up, rubber factory, and Thick Freakness (their best album in my opinion). Don't get me wrong, I still like the Black Keys, but I am significantly less impressed with their poppy sound nowadays. Where's that raw blues feel with the awesomely simple yet riddled with complexity guitar lead? On the three albums I mentioned above, I can't think of a single song I don't like. Out of all their newer albums though, I can only think of about three songs or so that I would deem worthy enough to take up space on my ipod. It's sad to me that the Black Keys were only able to achieve stardom once they adopted a new sound, despite the fact that their old one was significantly better in my opinion. I feel the new stuff really masks Dan Auerbach's talent and is lacking that same kind of fuzzy in your face blues sound. Then again, maybe I'm just crazy, but I would choose a good blues sound over a pop one any day.

I do miss the old sound a bit, but I think the lat two albums are just as good, just in a little different way. Let's face it bands evolve over time and most of the time their sound grows into something more grand and that is exactly what the Keys have done. Think about what the Beatles started out as and by the end what they became.  I can go a week and listen to nothing but The Black Keys music since their catalog is so diverse.  I love that if I feel like listening to their bluesy stuff I can and If I'm feeling something more upbeat I have El Camino. If you ever just Set your iPod to shuffle all of their songs you'll see how diverse all their music is. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that they will make an album again like their old stuff, but don't be surprised if they keep evolving and never do anything that raw again.

While I do agree that I enjoyed the older "dirty" sounds that were vastly found in their earlier albums, I must say production values increase. I think it is time to panic when Dan (Whose voice is amazing) needs to use auto tune to change things up. It is tough for me to pick which Black Keys I want to listen to, the gritty black keys or the modernized one. However, what I do know that I can expect pure energy regardless.

Dan has an awesome voice. I think since they've made it and can buy any equipment and pay for production, I'd like to see where they can go

I think their sound evolved, and although I too think Thickfreakness is their best album, I can certainly see why El Camino has taken off the way it has, the range is extraordinary but the basics are still there.

Has there been any news on the Black Keys moving on from Dangermouse?  I too, like the stripped down sound of the earlier albums.  The newer ones are not bad, far from it, I just like the bluesy sound more.  The second time I saw them was at Red Rocks in Colorado opening for "My Morning Jacket".  Patrick was way up front on the stage just killing it and Dan was amazing.  After they were done, I turned to my buddy and said, "I'm out, they can't top that".  We both left and it was on.  But I still love the sound they had with Fat Possum.

As a musician I understand the need to evolve. I don't see their sound as any less bluesy than before, musicians are effected by what we listen to and what were feeling at the time that the music inspires us. If you read about what The guys were listening to when they made el camino it makes perfect sense. I also love the raw blues heavy guitar sound but if that's all they did they would get bored and when that happens the music suffers. All of their music has its place and so far I think it has all been awesome. Honestly I haven't been as excited about a band in 15 years. I hope they keep evolving and keep their foot on the gas because trust me when I say that they will get the bug to turn it up and when they do they'll be blowing your mind all over again. Heck you might even find yourself liking a slow blues tune on the next album.
