There has been a lot of discussion of what these lyrics mean from "She's Gone" on the Black Keys' "Brothers" album.
I wanted to point out that there is a saying, "gone like a turkey through the corn." From interview footage I know the BK guys own and listen to records. We also know the group has a blues sound. Well what do you know, there is a 1960 album from Lightnin' Hopkins called "Country Blues", with a song called "Long Gone Like a Turkey Through the Corn"! See here: http://www.allmusic....es-mw0000646896 (cut 4).
Clearly, this is the inspiration for the song. Now I don't know why they changed "turkey" to "Moses." This could mean a variety of things, but they obviously wanted a "cooler" set of lyrics. Maybe it is an inside joke. Maybe they know a turkey named Moses. Maybe they are thinking of Moses crossing the Red Sea. Who knows?
All I know is I have never heard this aspect of the origin for these lyrics discussed in the past.
Enjoy!
